Eagle-eyed audiences who have already seen the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown might have spotted the piece of renowned Finnish design that was slipped into a pivotal scene of the film. Below, everything you need to know about the Marimekko moment featured in the flick
Ever since snaps of Timothée Chalamet portraying iconic artist Bob Dylan on the set of the Golden Globes-nominated biopic A Complete Unknown emerged online, the internet has been abuzz with excitement for the film, which chronicles Dylan’s meteoric rise to fame in the 1960s. Lucky stateside audiences have already had the chance to catch it in cinemas, while the European premieres are set to roll out early this year, with the Nordic premieres currently scheduled for February.
With a movie about an artist who is not only a musical genius but also a veritable style icon comes great fashion, of course. Costume designer Arianne Phillips was tasked with bringing the characters to life sartorially, honing in on the era’s fashion and Dylan’s well-documented, alternative-boho style of the time. Another central character to dress was Sylvie Russo, played by Elle Fanning, who was inspired by Dylan’s real-life girlfriend, Suze Rotolo, during his early years in New York City. Rotolo became a significant influence in Dylan’s life and music.
