Attention Copenhageners: your new go-to destination for simple, affordable and high-quality clothing has opened its doors – and its first weekend of operation is packed with special offers and activations

Sharing an affinity for functionality and discerning design, Denmark and Japan have long held a unique bond. Now, as Uniqlo opens its second store in Copenhagen, the special cultural friendship is celebrated with a limited-edition T-shirt collaboration with Danish brewery brand Mikkeller.

Emblazoned with Mikkeller’s signature graphics, the collector-worthy T-shirt range will be available to visitors to the newly-opened Uniqlo store within Fisketorvet Copenhagen Mall – an accessible destination for the local Copenhagen community – amongst the Japanese brand’s LifeWear offering of simple, affordable and high-quality clothing. The design of the limited-edition Uniqlo x Mikkeller T-shirts also include distinct references to the store’s Fisketorvet location and can be embellished with replications of EKI stamps – unique rubber ink stamp imprints collected by travellers from train stations across Japan – via the new store’s in-house embroidery service.

Speaking on the new opening of the new store – which saw hundreds of keen shoppers line up in anticipation of its doors opening – Nikolina Johnston, COO of Uniqlo Scandinavia says: "We are very proud to have opened our second store in Denmark today. With the store at Fisketorvet, we wish to cater to the local community of Copenhagen with a special focus on families and young adults. Therefore, we have developed locally rooted partnerships and a tailored in store experience."

Uniqlo's Scandinavian store expansion is a key part of the brand's ethos, as stated by John C Jay, the President of Global Creative for Fast Retailing Co. (the owner of Uniqlo and several other lifestyle brands) at the brand's recent LifeWear Day in Paris. “Our physical stores are the most important part of our existence," Jay said, "because real human beings come in every day, and that's our connection, our emotional connection."
