In the upcoming Netflix series Åremorden, based on the bestselling series by Viveca Sten, there’s familiar face against the show’s icy backdrop. We chat with Sten about her big moment

Spoiler Warning: Light spoilers for Åremorden ahead

Our next Netflix binge watch is nearly upon us. Based on the first two novels in Viveca Sten’s bestselling Nordic Noir series of the same name, Åremorden (The Åre Murders), which premieres February 6th, follows detectives Hanna Ahlander (played by Carla Sehn) and Daniel Lindskog (played by Kardo Razzazi) solving brutal crimes against the icy backdrop of the Swedish ski town. Eagle-eyed viewers (or shall we say “detectives”) will spot a familiar face tucked amongst the police that populate one of the series’ many gruesome crime scenes: Viveca Sten herself.

When I reach Sten to ask about her cameo, she’s sitting in her home in – you guessed it – Åre, fresh off a morning of skiing. “They were filming on a frozen lake, looking for body parts,” she says. “[Production] picked me up on a snowmobile and drove me to the site and equipped me as one of those CSI guys with overalls.” The result is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo, which appears in episode four. “You see me kneeling and photographing one of the body parts,” says Sten. “I think it was the head.”
