What people are wearing in Scandinavia this month

By Verona Farrell

From month to month, Stockholm-based Verona Farrell of Secondhandhuns scours and snapshots the best style spotted throughout our region's streets (and hottest parties) for Vogue Scandinavia. According to Farrell, the last month has seen Scandinavian duos stepping out in stylish synchronicity. Read on for more

This month we look to the duos of Scandinavia for our monthly dose of inspiration; perfectly synchronised pairs that seem to match by happy accident. But tribalism, imitation and maybe a sprinkle of confirmation bias are all possible explanations of this social phenomenon. A sign of collective solidarity expressed through what we wear that scratches a part of my brain I didn’t know needed scratching. Keep scrolling to soak in some Mary-Kate and Ashley level synchronisation, Scandi style.

In lovely Copenhagen, my favourite activity is planting my arse at Granola cafe on Værnedamsvej for at least three hours of uninterrupted coffee drinking and people watching.

If you or someone you know is in danger of high self-confidence, I recommend this street for a good humbling. I will always marvel at Copenhageners hopping on their bikes, causal as they come, wearing the most perfect eclectic equation that for some reason always seems to make sense.

The hot topic of the week in the city’s fashion capital, Vesterbro, was of course the closure of loved city brand Saks Potts which I heard being mourned by waitresses, people in the street, and just about everyone I met where ‘Hej’ was replaced by ‘DID YOU HEAR ABOUT SAKS POTTS?’

While in Copenhagen I had the chance to meet Vesterbro locals and bestie duo Mohammad and Rod, who happen to be the first people I took a picture of on the street back in the days of my fashion internship when my love of street-style took off. Apparently a fashion-crazed Irish girl running up to them in the street wasn't enough to warn them off and we’ve been friends ever since.

Scandinavia’s most loved duos turned up in force to Gustav Westman’s dinner in celebration of nothing in particular, a kind of ‘just because’ party (a much appreciated intervention as the Swedes slip comfortably into the official period of social hibernation called winter).

Besties, Young Royals stars, and sustainable stans Edvin Ryding and Fabian Penje repped vintage and Swedish design to celebrate. Ryding wore Adnym, Imaskopi and jewellery by Stockholm designer Louis Abel. Penje’s repped secondhand from top to toe with a '70s belt handed down from his grandmother, a tie from his grandfather, vintage crocodile cowboy boots and a scrapbook-hat pinned with memories from around the world. Two mindful kings.

Double the diva double the fun; Copenhagen-based Designer Viktor Almind and Furniture Designer August Hugo visit Stockholm, sporting the holy trinity of Copenhagen cool guy brands Han Kjøbenhavn, Gummi and Hanrej, complimented by vintage and hand-made.

Cool girl Stockholm brand Eytys brought their community together this month for an after-work drink, showing off their new hero piece: the Cyrus jeans. I tried them out and cannot stress this enough; they are the most flattering jeans imaginable. Super skinny on the bum and delightfully bootcut, they haven’t left my legs since trying them on.
