Making the most of Norways knitwear heritage, Woodling had models weaving through 3D-knitted walls while spinning a good yarn this season
This year, the models at Woodling wove their way through 3D-knitted walls, wearing puffs of sky blue mohair and creamy white alpaca. The brand didn’t just stop at visual impact; it also decided to spin a good yarn via the narrative soundtrack, which echoed Woodling’s dedication to local manufacturing. Every piece in the new collection was meticulously crafted in Woodling’s reconstructed barn-turned-studio in Jæren, Norway, using the brand’s six state-of-the-art 3D-knit machines. “It has been a longstanding dream and challenge to produce a variety of knitted garments at our own facilities in Jæren,” says designer Siv Elise Seland.
Although her work required almost constant travel, Seland continues to live in Jæren. "I work in the countryside in a large studio-house, a reconstructed barn, with my entire family-tribe living around me and nature on my doorstep influencing my creative work,” she says. It’s only natural, then, that Seland and her team draw inspiration from the local landscapes of Norway’s south-west coast. “The rugged coastline with its rocky shores and sandy beaches,” as Seland describes it, “a seascape with ever-changing skies and windswept dunes.” This landscape directly inspired the colour palette of the collection – the soft blue of a summer sky, frothy white foam cresting on waves crashing into beige beaches.
The collection makes the most of Norway's knitwear heritage utilising natural fibres ranging from the softest silk-alpaca blends to rough and durable Norwegian wool. As such, Seland hopes that her work will resonate with people who appreciate Woodling’s singular blend of handcrafted tradition and contemporary aesthetics. “Whether living a metropolitan lifestyle or spending time in nature, our pieces are made to be versatile and timeless,” she says. “They allow you to carry a touch of the Norwegian landscape with you, wherever you are.”
